If you googled “Trump Tower” for a while this weekend, you’d find this…
Instead of this…
Yup, somebody re-named Trump Tower as Dump Tower on Google Maps.
It was caught after a while and changed back. As you can imagine, it really ticked some people off. Others thought it funny.
Google only says that they get user contributions to Maps and that can “occasionally lead to inaccuracies.”
Various media reports say that map information can only be changed by someone inside Google or with access. So did someone hack Google Maps or was it an inside job? Maybe neither. Google Maps does use information from third-party sources, so it’s possible someone changed the name somewhere else and it showed up on Maps.
