The Identity Theft Resource Center H1 2026 Data Breach Report reports that “if the current pace continues, annual compromises could reach approximately 3,600 events, marking a four-year streak of more than 3,000 annual compromises.”
And, the number of people impacted is…incredible.
Already in the first six months of 2026, more than 471.2 million people got notices that their data may have been exposed, including 275 million victim notices from the Canvas education platform.
