NFL ratings were down this past season. The anthem protests, off field-behavior, Thursday night games, less-than-stellar prime time matchups: it adds up to about a 10% loss in NFL ratings compared to previous years. This year’s SuperBowl was one of the 10 most watched TV programs in U.S. history, but it was off 7% from last year.
Can the cause be isolated? According UBS, the #1 reason people watched less football? Protests during the national anthem.
The ratings mirror a recent Gallup poll. While 57% of Americans say they are pro football fans, that number if down from 67% in 2012 when they last surveyed people.
